The White Album Listening Party

Revisiting The Beatles' Top-Seller

4.3

November 22, 2008 marked the 40th anniversary of one of The Beatles' most remarkable releases, known as The White Album. This two-album set became the top-selling of all The Beatles' albums and ranks #11 on the all-time album sales list. Join award-winning producer Paul Ingles for an in-depth exploration of The Beatles' experience in this special listening party.

The White Album features a wildly diverse collection of music, including instant classics like "Back in the U.S.S.R" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," as well as gentle ballads and raucous electric rock. Ingles recalls his own memories of listening to this challenging collection as a child, and he invites a dozen Beatle fans into the studio to share their memories and observations about the landmark music.

Among the guests are Beatle author Steve Turner, who shares stories behind each track, and a panel of musicians who help listeners tune into the musicality of The Beatles. The event even includes a special combination of both versions of "Revolution," mixed together by engineer Douglas Grant. This unique gathering celebrates the enduring legacy of The Beatles and their iconic album.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

Critiques

Heaven for Beatles Fans

It is really a pleasure to hear fellow Beatles fans reminiscing about the “white” album, song by song. However, the tape (or whatever medium was used) seems to be slowed down—the songs are noticeably slower than I remember them on the album. It’s a bit unnerving. Still, I would enjoy hearing more programs like this one!
