The Antique Phonograph Program (WFMU) 2016 02 /16 (Guest Rich Conaty) Remastered Audio
WFMU
Lu par Mac
Another chance to hear WFMU's "The Antique Phonograph Program" with host Mac and his special in-studio guest, fellow record-collector Rich Conaty, host of WFUV's long-running Sunday night show, "The Big Broadcast." The format of "The Antique Phonograph Music Program" is unique, as 78 RPM records are played on antique acoustic steel-needle phonographs directly over the air, giving listeners the authentic sound of early 20th-century record players.
Mac has an infectious zeal and energy for the music of the era. This episode is presented as a remembrance to Rich Conaty, who left us unexpectedly on December 30, 2016. For this special one-off episode, the recording was made as it went out live, and all recordings used have been remastered to enhance the listener experience.
As Rich Conaty says at the outset of the show, "I'm not against modern equipment..." The audio quality of the records Mr. Conaty brought along that day has been improved, while studio surface noises have been removed to enhance the fluidity of the show. The last recording remains as is, allowing listeners to hear the acoustics for themselves.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
