A Life of Bliss 34 Eps

(5 stars; 14 reviews)

"A Life of Bliss" is a charming BBC sitcom that first aired on July 29, 1953. The series features George Cole as the awkward and absent-minded bachelor, David Bliss. In the early episodes, Nora Swinburne portrays his sister, while Esmond Knight plays his brother-in-law. These roles were later taken over by Diana Churchill and Colin Gordon.

The series is known for its unique production challenges, as writer Geoffrey Harrison often completed scripts just in time for recording sessions. Percy Edwards, who voiced the dog Psyche, entertained the studio audience with his animal impressions during these sessions. The show ran for a total of 118 episodes before transitioning to television in the early 1960s, where castmate Petula Clark achieved musical stardom.

Reviews

Genteel English sit-com

(5 stars)

The stories and dialog are very neatly contrived; the actors are among the best. This is classic English post-war comedy.

Sweet, lighthearted comedy
