Ivanhoe
Sir Walter Scott
Gelesen von LibriVox Volunteers

Follows the fortunes of the son of a noble Saxon family in Norman England as he woos his lady, disobeys his father, and is loved by another. Set in late 12C England and in Palestine with Richard Cœur-de-Lion at the Crusades, it's another ripping historical yarn by Scott. (summary by annise) (19 hr 24 min)

I read this book multiple times in my life yet listening to it again still got me excited. Unfortunately I still am not able to convince my wife that I need a sword.

Enjoyable book that was well read. The changes of readers did cause some distractions, but I was able to adjust to the change after a few minutes.

An excellent story that is well written. The readers were great for the most part although there was a reader or two that was hard to understand.
Classic book, dry readers.

The reader for almost the first half of the book was great, but whoever read the final act was very monotonic and sounded as bored as she makes those who listen to her droning feel.

the reader is clear, but she did struggle with a few words. the description states that the work is read by volunteers, so i suppose it can be forgiven.

The prose and interpersonal stuff is excellent if thats your cup of tea, even ignoring the story itself. there is always some vivid allusion or compelling turn of phrase or gripping framing that invokes the feeling of Shakespeare, but with somewhat more modern language. the story is simple but engaging, mixing history, fantastic romanticism, and true to life issues so as to do homage to each. Rebecca specifically has some great scenes. The conflict between Norman and Saxon, Jew and Christian, the description of chivalric virtue and chivalric excess, the power of a dignified lady’s words, a fools wisdom, bandits honor, and of fealty broadly ment. The readers are by and large very good as well, reading the text with a good balance of weight and whimsy. The only issue is that it can feel somewhat long winded at times for modern standards.
Great Book!

I've been wanting to read this for years, and I really enjoyed it! The cliff-hangers made me impatient and made it feel a little slow at times; but that will only be an issue the first time through :) All the readers did very well overall.

Some of the readers were outstanding. I plan to listen again in the future. Thank you to all the volunteers. Thank you to those who founded Librivox.
