All Else Is Folly

Read by KevinS

This novel, published in 1929, more than a decade after the close of the First World War, is an insightful and disturbing view of a Canadian officer's experiences both at war and during his painful recovery from serious wounds suffered on the Somme battlefield. Described here, also, is the man's love for a young English woman whose husband is a prisoner-of-war in Germany. Not surprisingly, the subtitle of Mr. Acland's novel is 'A tale of war and passion.' Canadian Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden remarked of the novel: "No more vivid picture has been painted of what war meant to the average soldier." - Summary by KevinS (6 hr 47 min)
