America - I

World’s Famous Orations gathers speeches by American orators from 1774 to 1837, spanning the years of the Revolution and the early republic. This volume presents public addresses as they were made to persuade, rally, or shape debate.
Rather than following a single speaker or narrative, the collection offers a sequence of historical voices. Its speeches provide a window into the arguments and concerns of a young nation, and into the language used to address audiences during a period of political change.
Listeners can approach the volume as a sampler of American public speaking and political thought, taking in each address on its own or hearing the collection as a record of changing times.
