Unmade Movies: Hitchcock’s The Blind Man is an adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock and Ernest Lehman’s unfinished screenplay, completed by Mark Gatiss in 2015. Set in 1961, the story follows a famous blind jazz pianist, Larry Keating, who agrees to a radical new medical procedure - an eye transplant. The operation is a success, but his new eyes belong to a murdered man, capturing the image of his murderer on their retina.

Joined by his new nurse, Jenny, Larry embarks on a quest to track down the killer before someone else falls victim. This gripping drama features a talented cast including Hugh Laurie, Rebecca Front, and Nicholas Woodeson, among others. With music by Blair Mowat and sound design by Wilfredo Acosta, this production is a captivating listen.

The plot is preposterous, like an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. But it’s fun to listen to the voices of Hugh Laurie (TV’s House) and the narrator who does a very good impression of Alfred Hitchcock.

This is a work of genius all round.
