This tribute to Richard Rodgers celebrates the life and legacy of one of the most significant composers of 20th-century American music. Richard Charles Rodgers is renowned for his songwriting partnerships with lyricists Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II. With over 900 songs and 43 Broadway musicals, his impact on popular music is undeniable.
Rodgers was the first individual to achieve what are now known as the EGOT awards, winning an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award, along with a Pulitzer Prize. This special program was broadcast over two consecutive weeks on the ABC program “Sentimental Journey” on December 27, 1980, and January 3, 1981.
