Pride and Prejudice (version 3)

Read by Karen Savage

(4.8 stars; 7006 reviews)

Pride and Prejudice is the most famous of Jane Austen’s novels, and its opening is one of the most famous lines in English literature - “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Its manuscript was first written between 1796 and 1797, and was initially called First Impressions, but was never published under that title. Following revisions it was published on 28 January 1813 by the same Mr. Egerton of the Military Library, Whitehall, who had brought out Sense and Sensibility. Like both its predecessor and Northanger Abbey, it was written at Steventon Rectory. (Summary from Wikipedia) (10 hr 23 min)

Reviews

Karen Savage is the BEST

(5 stars)

I love this book. I couldn't be happier with Karen's narration. The reviews are no exaggeration.

Amazed and Astonished

This was the first audiobook i had ever listened to and Karen Savage ruined all other readers for me from the very beginning. This is the I-don't-even-know-th time I have listened to it and it delights every time without fail. My love for this story is only amplified by Karen's beautiful reading and I will be listening again and again throughout the forseeable future.

Simply perfect!

After years of resisting watching "women's" movies and reading "chick novels" my wife prevailed on me to watch a couple of Jane Austen movies and now I'm hooked. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, so I gave this one a listen. Audiobooks simply don't get any better! I don't have to tout the virtues of the novel itself. It's a masterpiece. This reading is just about as good as it could possible. Karen Savages reading is clear, well paced, with perfect diction and pronunciation. Look no further!

Pride and Prejudice is such a timeless novel, one of the best that I have read. Karen Savage did an amazing job with reading this. The plot of the story itself is the best, and the narration only made it better. This is a very hard read on paper, but with the audiobook it was so much easier to follow. I struggle with anxiety and PTSD, so it’s hard for me to get to sleep at night. This book was extremely helpful, not only in slumber, but also in pleasure.

Excellent reading of a delightful book

I hadn't read this since high school a few decades ago, and while I remembered the basic plot, I'd forgotten how much of a role the art of conversation plays in the book. This was made all the more delightful to listen to with Karen Savage's reading.

The Best read by the Best.

My favorite classic novel read by my favorite reader. What a joy to listen to the diverse characters of P&P read by Karen Savage! I love listening to other Jane Austen novels read by Ms. Savage (I think all but Sense and Sensibility).

Wonderful story and wonderful reader

loved it

I adore older pieces like this and the reader was very good. My only issue I'd say is that there were moments that the audio cut out though very few.
