Adventures of Frank Merriwell

The Surprise Play

English · Sports Fiction, Action & Adventure, Young Adult Literature

Adventures of Frank Merriwell follows the athletic young hero Frank Merriwell through adventures shaped by sports, school life, and tests of character. The series draws on the popular stories created by Gilbert Patten, whose Frank Merriwell tales made the character a familiar figure in American youth fiction.

Presented as a radio drama, the program brings its action to life through dialogue, performance, and sound. The episode title, “The Surprise Play,” suggests a sports-centered adventure, while the series’ broader world combines competition with friendship, courage, and fair play.

The result is an energetic, straightforward adventure for listeners who enjoy classic tales of young athletes facing challenges on and off the field. Frank’s stories pair the excitement of athletic contests with an emphasis on resourcefulness and integrity.
