The Oakdale Affair
Gelesen von Ralph Snelson
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Jack London / H.H. Knibbs-inspired, selfless, poetry-spouting, hobo character, Bridge, makes another appearance in the novellete, The Oakdale Affair (original title, Bridge and the Oskalooska Kid). Joining the poetic hobo in this gothic-like tale are many other unusual elements: dark mysterious nights, a deserted haunted farmhouse, a violent thunderstorm, the Oskalooska Kid, a nameless girl, thieves and murderers, Beppo the bear, and other surprises.
The Oakdale Affair is a deep mystery and would puzzle even Sherlock Holmes. (Introduction by Ralph Snelson) (4 hr 4 min)

It has some well orchestrated plot elements. Very excellent narration. Ending is awful, but it doesn't detract from the rest of the story.

Great book, great reader... what can do except give 5 out of 5 with this winning combination. Finally what I consider a perfect endingl, the finale was so obvious that you saw it coming from the second chapter, as well as 'The Oakdale Affair' is complete with an ending that doesn't sound as if the author wrote THE END in the middle of the story because he doesn't KNOW HOW to draw his story to an actual conclusion. Thank you

Great short story and as usual, read so professionally by Ralph Snelson. A big thank you to Ralph and all the other Librovox readers on the brilliant job they all do.
With previous reviewer, ending a bit cheesy.... But good fun. I really enjoyed it. Narrator was excellent. Story was fun, and great way to kill some time.
Another great Edgar Rice Burroughs tale!

I really enjoy all of Edgar Rice Burroughs stories, even the non-Tarzan and non-Mars ones, like this one. This book takes you back to a simpler time in history. You have to keep in mind that he's writing about America in 1917, what life was like back then, less city and more farm country. This story is probably considered corny and nerdy by today's standards. So I guess I like corny and nerdy.

It proved a stupendously rare occasion...as like a starving whale, I found myself enthralled as I gorged myself from the 1st tantalising paragraph...The narrator fed me...after savouring the experience, I will most definitely be seeking out more of this scrumptious food for body and mind...Thankyou most appreciatedly to both the Author and the Narrator..."brrrrp".."Excuse me". Well done! a great reader and a surprise ending I did not see coming until the last moment of the reveal. I was hooked and couldn't stop listening to the end once things got going.
Sherlock Holmes wouldn't have a clue!
