(3,679 Sterne; 28 Bewertungen)

Hume was born in England, the second son of Dr James Hume. At the age of three his father emigrated with his family to Dunedin, New Zealand. He was admitted to the New Zealand bar in 1885. Shortly after graduation he left for Melbourne, Australia where he obtained a post as a barristers' clerk. He began writing plays, but found it impossible to persuade the managers of the Melbourne theatres to accept or even read them. Hume was a capable writer of mystery stories, and may be looked upon as one of the precursors of the many writers of detective stories whose work was so popular in the twentieth century. HUME AT HIS BEST

(5 Sterne)

This one keeps your interest to the very end. The conclusion is apt, if a bit unsatisfying.Shame on those who complain about Lucy Burgoyne. She is understandable; her pace is good; and. besides. the action was in Australia. Often readers of novels have difficulty making a vivid picture of some of the characters. Not Vandeloup: he is Louis Jordan from the very beginning.

Gave it a try

(3 Sterne)

Gave Lucy (may she rest in peace) a chance. I thought she did a fair job. Her voice grow on you. She may not do different voices but she doesn't speed read and pauses when suppose to. It does require more focus. The story was average. Jerks and stupid women abound but there is some justice.

Great yarn

(5 Sterne)

Brilliant tales with all sorts of twists and turns. A murderer at the end you will never expect.

ditto

I just wish that Lucy would volunteer to do something else on Librox. Librivox does not like you to criticize anyone, but seriously her narration is really horrible. I did tough out the last part of Alexander's Bridge with her but it was not easy.

Alas, an entire book read by Lucy Burgoyne. I like Fergus Hume, but can't take 13 hours of her total lack of expression, timing, or comprehension of what she is reading to us.
