Warning!! Disturbing Story.
Annika Matson

It's pretty disturbing how this story normalizes abuse. Whipping, shaming, restricting food, and withholding love are all portrayed as acceptable forms of discipline. Elsie's father goes from being harsh and cruel to overly affectionate and back again without any warning. He treats his youngest brother, a mischievous, somewhat poorly behaved, but mostly normal boy of ten, terrifyingly. I found myself worried many times for Elsie when she is in the company of one of her father's friends: a man of at least twenty-five who cannot keep his hands or eyes off her. He is apparently a good, upright man according to the story, but is, at least in my mind, dangerous and creepy. I would not encourage young children/ less mature readers to listen to this. Proceed with caution.

I love this book very much!
Love the enthusiam, but she reads too fast

This is a great wholesome book for middle schoolers. The reader reads much too fast to grasp what is being read, although I love her enthusiasm!

Elsie is a Christian role model for girls

We just finished this book for the second time. The way Elsie overcomes her many challenges through faith in Jesus Christ and trust in His power to save is inspiring to me and my girls. We love the scriptural quotations throughout the book. I suppose most girls of Elsie's age might not know the Bible as well as she does, but that doesn't spoil the story for us at all; it just makes me want to know and love the scriptures better myself. Thank you to all the readers for making this audiobook accessible to us. May God bless you for your kind service!

Loved the book. For those saying the reading is too fast....if you tap the speed icon at the top right of the app and adjust it to 0.7 or 0.8 you may enjoy it.

Well, I made it through ten minutes but gave up in a state of nerves because the reader was galloping along so fast that I couldn't catch many of the words. Also I think it is going to be one of those goody two shoes, moralising sort of books that I am getting tired of. Not for me, sorry.
