Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel--The Original

The only known extracts---including the only known complete episode ("The Ocean Cruise")---to have survived of the Marx Brothers' (well, Groucho and Chico; we'll assume Harpo was the silent partner) 1932-33 radio comedy. All but two of the scripts have been published in "Flywheel, Shyster, and Flywheel: The Marx Brothers' Lost Radio Show," edited by Michael Barson. "Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel" was part of a weekly series NBC called "Five Star Theater," in which---sponsored by Standard Oil and Colonial Beacon Oil for Essolube motor oil and Esso gasoline---there would be a different program each weeknight: comedy from the Marx Brothers Monday nights; classical music Tuesday nights; drama Wednesday nights; opera Thursday nights; and Charlie Chan Friday nights. Note: "Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel" was actually born as "Beagle, Shyster, and Beagle," but an actual attorney who was actually named Beagle threatened to sue for libel unless the show's name was changed. Waldorf T. Flywheel: Groucho Marx. Emanuel Revelli: Chico Marx. Writers: Arthur Sheekman, Nat Perrin (they had done the script doctoring for "Monkey Business" and "Horse Feathers")
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.

BBC made a new version of this series in the 1990's. Well worth checking out. Same title.
