Fascinating

(5 Sterne)

This book (and it's companions, which, in several other editions, cover the rest of the world) is great. Although written around 100 years ago, it still contains many interesting facts (the streetlights on London Bridge were made from seized French cannon, for example). The reader is excellent. This is a brilliant tour of Europe, covering politics, business and enterprise, customs, costumes, housing concerns, religious observations, and detailing professions which are now lost to industrialisation. Despite ostensibly being a textbook for children, there is plenty for adults to enjoy here, and plenty to learn. Thoroughly recommended to anyone interested in a snapshot in time of different cultures and peoples, and anyone who has enjoyed this should definitely check out the rest of the series.

A very fascinating journey through an old, very different Europe now long gone - in the years just before the First World War would change the continent forever.
