Last Chance - a small town set on the edge of the far frontier. It is a place of gentle manners and common civility. After all, it should be since more than three quarters of its residents are women. However times change when a Talent Master runs rampant, savages threaten war, and an illegal militia from an alternate universe plans invasion and empire. A hero is needed. A Savior. Meet Aaron Turner, the small unassuming man who runs the Last Chance General Store. He is this town's--this world's--only hope. Unfortunately for the town, Aaron also happens to be a soldier and Militia spy whose job is to prepare the ground for the Militia's invasion. To help him with this task, he has a cellar filled with advanced weaponry and the unique ability to teleport between the two worlds. However after a year of living within Last Chance, Aaron is no longer sure in which direction his loyalties lie.

ugh... helpless victim goes on

(1 Sterne)

ok. so the readers cadence was a bit choppy but story seemed good so I kept listening. maybe just me but I skipped over half a chapter where main character sits by helplessly as bad guy mails in very graphic detail his friends. second time I got to one of those sections and lasted only a couple min before deciding this book isn't for me

This is the sort of high quality work that keeps me combing through podiobooks, looking for more. Seriously, this book is so good it is hard to believe it's free. (err.... not suggesting you take down the other 3 before I have a chance to listen to them.)

You'll have no trouble listening to this one! The story grabbed me early on and held me all the way through. This book is filled with well thought out characters who you will love to love....and love to hate.

Fantastic story. Don't be dissuaded. Edit...

I love the story but sort of hate the protagonist. He is pathetic, cowardly & dense with zero common sense & is also a complete cuck & refuses to stand up for himself which makes you hate him eventually but the plot & story line keep you totally engrossed. The writing is fantastic & the plot is really engaging, aside from the main character I'm greatly enjoying the story. The obnoxious women complaining that the book is sexist or racist didn't actually listen to it & are mad because they are alone & their cats don't care about their SJW whining & neither does anyone else. Note to the author. Take a decongestant before you read the next book, you have a great voice under the sinus congestion, ignore the haters. Edit. ok I give up. Aaron is a utter Beta Cuck who is totally pathetic, a coward, rewards & tolerates women who treat him worse than trash, use him & betray him while curling around his soft yellow belly & hoping to be left for dead. normal men & all women will hate this guy to the point of disgust.

Great Series!

Hey Aaron - I mean Mark, I am posting this review under Traitor even though I have just finished Pawn and am looking forward to starting Book 4 as soon as I've dropped you a note. First of all, I can't imagine the work you must have put into these books. Thank you so much for sharing them with us. That said, I stumbled across them on Librivox and wanted to write a review on Amazon for you, but I can't as I didn't download your books from there. Is there anywhere else I can post to help you out? Secondly, I'd have to say the first book had a bit of a slow start BUT it was well worth the build up as you set up the plot, setting and characters so the reader has a solid feel for Aaron's two worlds. I like, as well, the flow through the books. You don't overly rehash information that was shared in prior books (although I'd highly recommend people read the books in order!). *Tried to write (lots) more but ran out of space, so... Great series, well read, feisty characters and interesting premise. Thank you!

Hey Craig, thanks for your input. Seriously, thanks. Unfortunately, I'm afraid at the point of the story you mention Aaron could no longer teleport Beech high in the sky. Please remember that the wiring in his back had been reconnected, thus changing the nature of his talent. Also, he was ...

Hello Mark, I would have liked to tell you that your book was a real page turner... Uhm, but I suppose the days of such colloquial terms are long gone. However, I just needed to let you know what a serious risk your book poses to those of us who ...

Hey Mark, just got finished your book and I enjoyed it a great deal. I'm going to listen to the second book when I get a chance so I'll let you know what I think of that one. One of the chapters near the end I found very compelling, probably ...
