Set in the late twelfth century during the Third Crusade, the Norman Conquest having occurred not much more than a hundred years ago, Winning His Spurs is a tale of Christian heroism. Cuthbert, a fifteen-year-old village boy whose life is rather dull, is given his life's dream when, after showing heroic bravery in saving Margaret, the daughter of the Earl of Evesham, from Wortham Hold, he is hired as the page of the earl to serve in the war against the Muslims occupying Jerusalem. This brave young boy serves as a soldier in the Crusade, commits acts of heroism, rescues a Princess, and eventually, he "wins his spurs" as a knight and is promoted to Earl of Evesham himself! Are you ready to join Cuthbert and learn of his exciting adventures?

Bravo from Borneo

I really enjoyed this coming of age tale that centres on a young lad and his quest for honour in medieval times. GA Henry provides a lucid historical background surrounding Richard I and the crusade he advanced. The novel moves along well and there is much adventure and many trials that are overcome. The narrator did a good job

Excellent

When I first read Winning His Spurs at 15 it immediately became my favorite Henty. Listening to it eight years later, it's still my favorite out of the 18 Hentys I've read. It was far better than I remembered! The reader does constantly mispronounce words, but I'm just thankful to have an audio version. Other than that she does just fine. 11/20/23

Excellent story. The reader improved throughout.

Very Good Book

I'm didn't care much for the reader's voice, I did how ever eventually get used to it, than again I'm not going to complain about something free. The book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read.

ONE OF HENTY'S BEST

(5 stars)

A rousing tale of the crusades and of the treachery of those too timid to fight. With a few exceptions of pronunciation (anathema, manginel, Worcestshire, etc.) the reader was lucid and very enjoyable.

Typical Henty, ie good.

Interesting, and useful for getting the history into one's head. Pleasantly read and easy to listen to. Pronunciation reasonable but not flawless.

Winning His Spurs.
