The Dancing Girls

Read by Phil Chenevert

(4.5 stars; 91 reviews)

The Dancing Girls is just one of the 4 excellent short stories in this recording. All written by the master, Edna Ferber for magazines between 1910 and 1919 they naturally contain her unique mix of real people, sadness, joy and always humor. The lead Story, The Dancing Girls, is my favorite for the way she paints a picture of mid America small town society and how good people somehow (and sometimes) can find their way to each other. Other stories in this collection are Old Lady Mandel; Long Distance; and One Hundred Percent (Summary by Phil Chenevert) (2 hr 44 min)

Ferber is a very good writer, bringing back an age that has passed. She lets you into people’s lives, showing you their inner workings not just the trappings. I lover her style. I need a break know and again from my usual reads... The reader is one of my favorites! Thank you to both for yet another adventure!

Brilliantly written, brilliantly read

During the second time reading, years have past. I have always liked this reader and miss his wonderful dedication to LibriVox. I found the story of Old Lady Mandle to have new meaning with my change of prospective. Ferber has unique insight waiting for discovery . Thank you LibriVox and each and every reader

Good story!

The story was good, however, I tired quickly of the reader's sing-song delivery. If he speaks in that pattern normally, we could not speak often!

excellent reader
