Carnacki, the Ghost Finder
William Hope Hodgson
Read by LibriVox Volunteers
Thomas Carnacki was a detective of the supernatural, created for a series of short stories by William Hope Hodgson. Hodsgon, also a noted photographer and bodybuilder, might have created more stories for this intrepid sleuth of the occult, but he unfortunately died at the youthful age of 40 in World War I. My LibriVox Sentimental Favorite!
Vivia
This is the book that first brought me to my beloved LibriVox. Two of these stories were on a list of someone's favorite scary short stories... and they were just a little too obscure to show up anywhere but here. I thought I was in hog heaven when Apple finally allowed us to download library (ie, free) audiobooks onto our iPods. What that did, a little downside, was create audiobook-addicted readers. What is not to love about someone reading to you? And I am nothing if not three things that make them indispensable to my comfort: a bookworm, lazy, and laid up longterm. My reading taste runs to the obscure, and I love that LibriVoxlians will trouble to record texts that are unlikely to attract many readers. LibriVox is like a wonderful second hand shop where everything is free. It is literal treasure hunting, or a dream shopping spree where you can afford everything in the shop! While I'm at it, can i just say the world needs more people like LibriVOX volunteers? thanks.
Good recording; stories themselves are just ok
A LibriVox Listener
The recording is fine. The stories are rather like a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Scooby Doo. Not William Hope Hodgeson's finest work, but decent.
