The Lost World is a 1912 novel by Arthur Conan Doyle concerning an expedition to a plateau (native name is Tepuyes) in South America (Venezuela) where prehistoric animals (dinosaurs and other extinct creatures) still survive. The character of Professor Challenger was introduced in this book. Interestingly, for a seminal work of dinosaur-related fiction, the reptiles only occupy a small portion of the narrative. Much more time is devoted to a war between early human hominids and a vicious tribe of ape-like creatures. (summary by Wikipedia) (8 hr 0 min)

Great Adventure

(5 stars)

Fantastic story with lots of twists and turns. And all through the adventure that subtle vein of humor. Prof. Challenger - you are the man!! Listening to this narrative I realize how much more the author of the inimitable Sherlock Holmes has to offer!! Genius! And to top it all, amazing reading by all the readers with Scott Mather ( I hope I got the name right) standing out. Well done - and heartfelt thanks.

Excellent!

Great adventure and story! Easy to see its influence on literature since. Fairly well read, however the combination of different readers can make it distracting sometimes. Not a big deal though.

very good reading!! only some recordings had low quality and it showed through the headphones but nothing that would prevent me from listening to it again.

This was my first book on LibriVox. Though I enjoyed the book itself it was very aggravating having to switch readers. Consistency’s something that would have definitely made the book better. There was one reader who only read one chapter but she nearly had me delete the book unfinished. She was very hard to listen too and nearly ruined the entire thing. Anyhow, I now know to only search for books that offer 1 reader.

excelent!!!

Tho I love Holms and Watson, still I feel Lost World may be Doyles best. I enjoyed it so much.

Enthrawling story a brilliantly illustrated with words. The only element that aged the story was its lack of political correctness.

very well read novel no added drama by narrator just simply read.... some Libervox volunteers really think their adding to the author's published work by adding their own VOICE DRAMA. (Gregg Margarite) use your creativity to write your own novel put all the damn drama you want in it then. So thanks Libervox and volunteers Just read the words leave it to author and listeners to apply either pen or ear drama. and save Drama Queen for personal life PLEASE. THANKS AGAIN
