The two main characters are fishing when they spy a new face in the area. A young girl and her family have taken up residence at the broken down house nearby. Mystery surrounds this young girl, as she is not allowed to go anywhere or see anyone. The three become friends, but secretly. Why is the girl so afraid to tell her new friends anything? Why does her family hide from everyone? A good mystery with a neat twist. Enjoy!

It's ok

I would not put this down in history as one of my favorite mysteries but it was okay, enough to keep me entertained on the drive to work. The narration was also just okay as well. There were a few narrators who I would have loved to have done the whole book and some I wish had not been featured at all. Overall the narration was done well enough to keep you listening.

Fun little mystery.

Enjoyed this simple mystery. Some readers are better than others. Overall worth the listen.

Fun historical fiction mystery

The story is about what you'd expect from this author. It's a nice way to occupy one's mind while driving or doing small tasks. One of the main readers has some kind of British accent and her sentences don't flow according to the diction, but she is otherwise clear. The last reader does an excellent Southern accent, but mistakenly applies it to all the characters, including the lawyer from New York, ha ha! Oh well.

Love the innocence of an era long past but not forgotten by novels like these. One almost yearns for those halcyon days. However, it must not be forgotten that people like me, (mixed race) were not tolerated and gross injustices were perpetrated by the "master" race. I do still live vicariously through novels such as these.

Awesome book!
