An early screwball comedy, the plot revolves around a Soap Manufacturing Mogul's attempt to get his idle-rich son to make something of himself. This involves a Countess who speaks only French (or does she?); the son's sweetheart (or is she?); a hard-sell theatrical press-agent (well, he definitely is!), and a new soap company set up by the son in competition with his father.

what a great advert for LibriVox

(4 stars)

this dramatic reading of a play was thoroughly enjoyable and a great example of what LibriVox can do. the play is pure fast with a cast of of characters each displaying individual quirky traits. it is difficult to believe that the actors playing these roles are not professional. maybe they are and are just doing this volunteer work out of sheer altruism. what is most remarkable is that the cast members seemed to empathize with each other which is a clever trick to pull off given that they were recorded independently and then cut together. the only criticism is that the stage directions were read out verbatim which was sometimes a distraction. perhaps these could have been edited so as to keep the meaning but lose the unnecessary specifics.
