Novello's career began as a songwriter, with his first big hit being "Keep the Home Fires Burning" in 1914. He later turned to acting and starred in silent films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. His stage musicals, including "Glamorous Night" and "The Dancing Years," were particularly successful, showcasing his talent for both writing and performance.
