Here we are 500 years into the Renaissance and 300 years into the Enlightenment, and yet so many Americans are mentally marooned in the Middle Ages. Here's one who might as well be living in the year 1020 as 2020, applying his human intelligence to perform mental gymnastics and use pretzel logic and logical fallacies to try to convince himself and others that some 4000-year-old myths dreamed up by superstitious Bronze Age primitives are more authoritative than modern science. Well, I guess you shouldn't expect any more from a church in Alabama. If this were 1820 instead of 2020, what we'd be hearing would be elaborate arguments in favor of slavery.
