A remote corner of a bleak system...
A broken-down gunboat, stuck in space...
An incompetent captain and a misfit crew...
A pirate ship, a silent target, and a whole bunch of secrets...
So how's YOUR day going?

There have to be easier ways to make a living -- easier than dying slowly in an obsolete boat, as its power drains out and life support fails. Forget the job; forget the pirate problem: there's only time for a desperate jury-rig and maybe a little hand-wringing! And anyway...what are the odds of running into trouble way out there?

Set in a distant future among the stars, this series introduces us to Ejoq Dosantos, professional gunner for corporate and privately-owned armed merchant ships. Pirates, venal business interests, and interstellar intrigue abound, but sometimes it seems like Ejoq (who might have a slight authority issue) is his own worst enemy!

This book and its podcast production demonstrates the sheer breadth of the sci-fi genre and I for one certainly appreciated its fast pace, quirky character development and the space travel backdrop. There is also a cornucopia of technical processes, equipment and theory that is quite neatly embedded in the storyline. I also appreciated the narrator and the distinctive voices he lent to his reading. I will certainly follow Ejoq into his next adventure in book 2 of this 3 book series.

Great find! I love space-based science fiction, and this story has enough juicy little details about life in space to take me there and justify the setting ... all integrated into the characterizations and the plot. The writing is tight and clear even beyond what one would expect in a ...

Leslie, You're very welcome! I'm thrilled that some people have enjoyed listening to "Motherload" as much as I enjoyed producing it. It was a good toehold into audiobooks for me, since it's fairly short, the cast of characters is small, and the settings are constrained. Thanks so much for giving ...

Lucie, Thank you! Thats quite flattering. Even though my other book here on Podiobooks.com ("Street Candles", cha-ching cha-ching) is another Ejoq story, it's a bit different in tone from this one: more drama, and a lot more characters. And at forty chapters, it's got time to grow on you!

Hi David! I had the honor of editing the audio for a story you read for a podcast a couple of years ago and I was really impressed. So even if Space Opera is not really my thing, I like to keep tabs on what you do. ;)

Andy, Thanks for listening, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Book 02, "Street Candles" is here, but Book 03 is a ways off, I'm afraid. Hope it will be worth the wait! Thanks again!

Lucie, I'm so happy you liked the recording and voice work. Space Opera doesn't appeal to everyone, of course, so thank you for listening. I really do appreciate it!
