Crusade, Book 4 of The Turner Chronicles

Read by Mark Eller

(4.6 stars; 213 reviews)

Three years after being named the Chin emperor Aaron Turner is busy building a new capital city and hiring archeologists, two endeavors he could happily pursue for the next several years. Unfortunately, his divided empire is close to war, assassins are trying to kill him, entire nations want his head, and a Talented prophet has declared a multinational religious crusade against him. Offsetting these threats are Aaron's ill prepared army, inferior weapons, questionable generalship, and the insight of Delmac, a Clan savage who has wanted Aaron dead for nearly twenty years.

What his enemies don't know is that Aaron Turner really is The One God's Chosen, called Bringer, known as Death, and he is righteously pissed off.

interesting endings

So Aaron’s story ends, and Mark Eller completes the story he started. Some live, some die. It isn’t always those you’d expect. Each of his characters, not just his main ones, is well thought out, and very complex-dimensional. I like how he gets us into their heads. From the simple, to the everyday life, to the fantastic; Mr. Eller fills in his universe. Back stories galore. Often I was left wondering, What?! Why?! And later the elements weave together. Are all the story lines tied up, no. He has room for more adventure if he wants. Did I like all of the story element? No! I enjoy a well thought out fantasy story that sticks to the basic tenets of that world, but I don’t stick with most because they tend to become preachy. Did enjoy the ride? Yes! I’ll do him a solid because he’s done his readers a solid! Thank you Mr. Eller.

Very interesting

I'm very glad I stumbled across the Turner Chronicles. As be serious progressed it kept my interest and I have to say the author got to be a better reader as well. another great thing about it is that they don't do a recap at the beginning of every chapter which I often find is a waste of time since you've been listening to the book all the way through. I highly recommend giving the series to listen.

Enjoyed most of the final book in series. Would have liked more Turner's character development with his new powers. Also, the sexual suggestions in all of this series were too much of a man's idea of how women think sexually. A lot of writing about men's fantasies should have been left out.

I really liked the storyline, however it wears you down. He's up, he's down, He gets stomped on hard, He's crushed. He whines too much and the is constantly agonizing over decisions. You need some of that, yes...but. Mark Eller has great potential as a writer. The story is a ...

Ok... but not as good as the other three

this last book I did not like so much. I like the other three better. But I liked listening to all 4. Kudos and we will meet again... in some other book

easy listening

I enjoyed the series. the characters were interesting and pulled u in. you could tone the "y'all" stuff down a bit. as a country person myself, I found that irritating. but overall its worth a listen

From the start, this was a good story. I almost gave up on it half way between books 2 & 3 b/c I didn't like the feel or direction. But Crusade was just great. Couldn't stop listening!

A fitting conclusion
