An early werewolf novel, praised by H.P Lovecraft. The only weird fiction from an author of mainly crime fiction. Two strange disappearances occur on a road in Sussex. The second involved a member of the aristocracy and a famous actress, so a large, but fruitless investigation is held by Scotland Yard. An American, visiting an old friend, who is of the local gentry, suspects something horrible and begins to investigate to verify his fears.. - Summary by Alan Winterrowd (5 hr 54 min)

DON'T READ THE SUMMARY! I also recommend you skip the Foreword.

The story takes time to get to the point so the summary spoils a good part of it. The reader is good but not well suited to this particular book; it's written in British style though the narrator is American because the book is made of reports from different sources so a single accent makes it hard to separate them. Verbose and predictable as sll books were back then, otherwise a right ripping yarn!
Old fashioned horror
