But he was afraid. He had failed twice already. He could not afford to fail a third time. If he failed ruin faced him, and disgrace. His father had warned him that the money he had saved for his education had come to an end. Ruin for his father and his little sister!
He had no idea how deeply Rupert was in debt. Rupert himself had only just realised it. And in desperation he had gambled to save himself. (Excerpt from 1st chapter by Arthur Applin) (7 hr 38 min)

A Fun Listen!

(5 stars)

This is the first book I’ve listened to read by Tony Olivia and it was an exciting experience. Mr.Olivia reads with reasonable passion which is well suited to the book’s genre. Great story with an incredible narrator!

Entertaining

(5 stars)

A typical English Mystery, fraught with wringing handed young women & desperate, poor young men, dastardly villains & you know the rest....I loved it!

One of my favorite narrators

Accused of forging a check of £5 to £500, Rupert is put in jail for 5 years.

slow in the beginning but has a wonderful pay off.

I like to be a farmer someday
