(4.3 stars; 329 reviews)

Michael Berrington is a bachelor leading a quiet life in London. Overhearing a conversation at his club one day, he becomes interested in a discussion regarding a man named Gastrell. Gastrell is somewhat of a mystery to the club members in spite of his renting a house from one of them. Berrington’s interest in Gastrell intensifies as his fiancé, Dulcie Challoner, befriends a wealthy widow, Mrs. Connie Stapleton who evidently has some type of relationship with Gastrell. As the plot progresses, Berrington finds himself involved with sensational robberies, brutal murders, coded messages, and even mind control! As in many Le Queux books, there are twists and turns as new characters and locations are introduced. When you are sure you know the ending, something new occurs and you wonder how it will affect the conclusion of the book. (Introduction by Tom Weiss) (9 hr 14 min)

Well...

(4 stars)

This book is both good and not so good. I liked the story (summary covers the plot very nicely) but part of it is very sad. I was truly hoping things would turn out differently. Tom W is an excellent reader, and the story is very good, but me being the 'happy ending' kind of person that I am, I get a bit deflated when the good guys suffer major setbacks. You'll know what I mean when you hear the story.

Mystery & intreague ?

A beautifully read, good story. I think that rather than being a "shameless self promoter, the excellent reader Tom Weiss promotes the sharing of audio books. Look further before passing judgement & throwing stones. quote from site: "Tom?s Audio Books is a site devoted to providing links to absolutely free audio books ? no strings attached" thanks for sharing.

Exciting and really interesting good listen all the way around :-) Narrator is very easy to listen to me and adds tones of interest to the story

beautiful evil women...again.

Predictable bad beautiful woman against noble but susceltible gentlemen plot but charmingly narrated by Tom Weiss.

Bravo from Borneo

I have listened to many William Le Queux novels and this is a fine example of his murder mystery genre, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There are many interesting and engaging characters and WLQ weaves a plot line full of suspense, tension and romance, all set within the context of the English gentry at the time. Chapeau to Tom Weiss who once again narrates the story excellently. Now on to my next WLQ novel.

Wonderful

I loved this book! I am not crazy about the strange electronic sound with this reader. I think he uses a voice altering machine. However I am so grateful that he was reading it. thank you. Also, the story was great, with twists and turns and definitely not predictable. I recommend it for sure.

WHAT A JOURNEY

LeQueue spun a great tale in this one. He usually does. of course. The only complaint is the abruptness of the ending;, I wanted to see each of the bad guys personally get it. The reader did another wonderful job, thanks to him for his time.

Involved mystery with romance

I love this reader, Tom Weiss. Definitely do not agree with others who dislike him. The story is quite complicated with many characters included. As others have said, it's not all "happy endings" which makes it more true to life.
