(4.8 stars; 11 reviews)

A concise collection of poems translated from the great German poet Rilke into formal English verse. Although the translation may be freer than some modern texts, this selection, which spans early and later writings and includes a preface refreshingly focused on the poet's artistic development, provides a nice entrée into Rilke's world. A very fine narration. Rilke was one of the finest poets of the twentieth century. Unlike many narrators, who read too fast, I find this narrator has an excellent pace.

Rilke finely illuminated

For anyone coming for the first time to Rilke's poetry this will be uniquely rewarding. A richly allusive translation read with measured beauty and acute understanding. Bravo.

Beautifully done!
