All Is Beautiful: The Navajo Creation Story

Read by Jabez L. Van Cleef

(4.4 stars; 16 reviews)

Since the beginning of time, human beings have told the story of their own beginning, and of the origins of the four directions, the heavens, the God-People, the earth, and all its creatures. The Navajo People tell a story of great psychological power and depth.

First recorded by 19th century ethnographers, the Navajo Creation story is here interpreted as an epic-length poem.

Jabez L. Van Cleef has written poetic versions of spiritual texts from all of the world's great religious traditions. His voice in dramatic readings explores the fine distinctions between metered prose and music, by creating a spoken word sound environment that lulls the listener into a state of profound receptivity.

All is certainly beautiful

Jabez, thank you sincerely for this beautiful story and your wonderful narration. I could listen to your voice all day. You brought us on a magical journey throughout the realms. My only suggestion is to remove the music between chapters. It was lovely at the start to set the mood but it became very distracting and I felt it kept pulling me out of the wonderful vision you were weaving for us. I look forward to exploring more of your work. Yours with thanks and blessings from the emerald isle (the 6th world) :-) Mary J Leen

Folks, I loved the beginning, and wanted to listen more, however, I really could not hear it...the volume was so low, that in order to hear, I had to raise the volume to a point that distorted the voice. I surely hope this will be repaired, as I am hoping ...

This is a fantastic book. It is one that all should hear. I grew up with a good friend that is navajo and he always said to me that our language is one of feeling, much more than a written word. He is right and this book speaks to it.

I finished the story in just two days. I quite enjoyed it. The beginning was a bit odd to get into, but after about three episodes I had it down. The narration quality was quite good and the narrator has a good voice. Probably the biggest problem was the low ...
