(4.5 stars; 59 reviews)

When the recently-widowed Mrs. Meyers wins the "Expect The Unexpected Sweepstakes" she thinks everything in her life would turn around. But the prize of precious jewels comes with an unexpected catch: she must keep an ancient magical being safe, secure, and entertained for three months at her condo. Is she up to the challenge of this unique homestay program? Will she be able to deal with her abusive boss, and a condo association that is certain there's vermin running around the building? And, most importantly, what will a gnome think of Chicago deep-dish pizza?

My 10-year-old daughter likes to listen to audiobooks at night before she goes to sleep so I am always looking for new books for her. I had her start listening to this book on my i-pod to see if she would like it on her i-pod. She was immediately enthralled ...

Thanks for a wonderful, modern fairytale. I hope that Susan Klein takes up pen again, and writes another - soon. It doesn't have to be about Mr. G. or Mrs Meyers, but to bring the mythical back into the modern would be marvellous. Thanks again for a lovely listen.

Can't wait to hear what happen's next...what a heartwarming, delightful story with so much depth and creativity addressing the challenges of different beings on many levels. The wonderful paintings just pull me in further. Ms. Klein is a very talented writer and artist.

This is a tale that is simply lovely to listen to. I like that Susan Klein narrates the story herself, setting the perfect tone that matches Brenda, the main character. I really enjoyed this one!

Absolutely well written book. It had a great story line. Believable and excellent for sharing with my child. Right up there with Gregor the Overlander. I look forward to seeing more from this author.

It is so refreshing to have a good entertaining story that is magical and not riddled with violence. Thank you and I am looking forward to "The Big Sendoff"
