Wage-Labour and Capital

(4.6 stars; 173 reviews)

Originally written as a series of newspaper articles in 1847, Wage-Labour and Capital was intended to give an overview of Marx’s central theories regarding the economic relationships between workers and capitalists. These theories outlined include the Marxian form of the Labour Theory of Value, which distinguishes “labour” from “labour-power”, and the Theory of Concentration of Capital, which states that capitalism tends towards the creation of monopolies and the disenfranchisement of the middle and working classes. These theories were later elaborated in Volume 1 of Capital, published in 1867.

This edition of Wage-Labour and Capital, published in 1891, was edited and translated by Friedrich Engels, and remains one of the most widely read of Marx’s works. (Description by Carl Manchester). (1 hr 42 min)

Excellent clear reading, and a good introduction into Karl Marx, especially if the jargon in Capital vol. 1 makes you crazy, this provides a good starter too it.

Awesome

I tried reading Capital, but I couldn't understand it without devoting time I did not have to give it my undivided attention. This explains Marx's detailed analysis of Capitalism very well and is relatively convincing and easy to understand.

Great text if you are looking to get into on Marxs works and theses but are still intimidated by Capital( not to be confused with this book, Wage-Labor and Capital. Easy listen, Engles posthumous edits to update Marxs work on this to keep in line with his later findings in Capital are a great addition to REALLY give a great introduction to Marxist Thory

Great work and great reading.

Taking politics out of the equation Marx starts with explanations of the working components of Capitalism and then justly explains its weaknesses. Whether you believe it can be fixed or not the takes on our economic systems is interesting to say the least. Also the reader does a great job. Clear, professional, easy to listen to.

This volume is an amazing analysis of the economic forces driving labor involved in period labor markets that is still completely applicable to this day.

An excellent introduction

This is a clearly written introduction to Marx's more economicly focused ideas, and I highly recommend it.
